Co-founder and co-founder of MagosVölgy Ecological Farm, agricultural engineer in environmental management
In the MagosVölgy Ecological Farm we have been engaged in small-scale mixed organic vegetable production since 2014 in a permanent bed, compost mulch cover cropping system without rotation. The system is ecologically focused, but management is intensive, most of the work processes are standardised, and the individual system elements are ergonomically integrated. All this requires a relatively small area and simple technologies, as well as a few years of dedicated work and perseverance, which not only produces a significant amount of fresh, seasonal, chemical-free, healthy food, but can also build a successful business.
Over the past 10 years, practice has shown that a human-scale and human-facing farming system can be economically successful while producing significant social and environmental added value. The taste of the vegetables produced is outstanding, based on consumer feedback. The community-based marketing model is built on stability, forward planning and trust-based human relationships.
Thanks to the methods used, the fertility of the soil, the primary natural resource available to the garden, is not decreasing, but is increasing, its structure, water balance and organic matter content are improving.
As the founders of the MagosVölgy Organic Farm, we have come a long way in the last 11 years, paid a lot of tuition fees and gained a lot of experience in small-scale organic vegetable production and community farming. Summing up our experience, we provide a professional safety net and fast track to start and run bio-intensive vegetable production systems and community farms through professional mentoring and advisory services. We feel it is important to educate, organise training courses and partner in initiatives to provide farmers and would-be farmers with pragmatic knowledge.
Our aim is to represent and disseminate sustainable food production practices to a wide range of professionals.
