Ferenc Berend
Ferenc Berend was born in 1975, he is an agricultural engineer, plant physician and biological soil resource management engineer.
The Berend Ltd. is a family business based in Pusztakovácsi, Somogyvár- Vityapusztán and Öreglakon, engaged in soil regeneration agriculture. After abandoning ploughing, the farm switched to no-till farming on the entire area from 2011, and no-till farming on the areas from 2019.
Berend Kft. regularly conducts trials at its own expense to adapt the no-till technology to local conditions.
It has organised a number of practical demonstrations for farmers interested in this type of farming and related technologies. He is a regular contributor to videos and articles on regenerative farming and has integrated livestock farming into his farming activities from 2020. The animals are grazed intermittently on arable land. This method is not only unique in Hungary, but also a rarity in the world.
In 2022, the jury of Highlights of Hungary awarded him the main prize for his work.In 2023, the National Chamber of Agriculture awarded him the Somogy Environmental Protection Award, and in 2024 he received the Golden Cluster Gazda Award from Minister of Agriculture István Nagy, which recognised his outstanding work in the introduction of the "no-till" system of soil cultivation on a commercial scale.
He is supported by his wife and three children - a daughter and two sons.
